Bed Pad Alarm is a pressure-sensitive alarm system placed under the patient on the mattress, designed to alert caregivers when a patient attempts to exit the bed unassisted. It is an essential fall prevention tool for patients who are at risk of falling, disoriented, or unable to safely ambulate without supervision.

The pad connects to an alarm unit that sounds when pressure is removed, giving caregivers critical seconds to respond before a fall occurs. It is widely used in hospice, long-term care, and home settings. OxyCare delivers and sets up fall prevention equipment, and rental is available.

Set-up Magnetic Clip Alarm

1. Attach magnetic alarm to wheelchair or bed.
2. Place magnetic sensor in the sensor area.
3. Clip cord to a piece of clothing the patient is not likely to remove, and out of patient's reach.
4. A pull on the cord will cause the magnetic sensor to release sounding the alarm.
5. Stop alarm either by replacing the magnetic sensor or turning the unit off.
6. Patient/Caregiver demonstrates each step and has a solid understanding.

Set-up Pressure Pad Alarm

• Select desired alarm and volume settings.
• Attach monitor to wheelchair, chair or bed using attached metal clip.
• Place the pad on chair or bed so the bulk of the patient's weight is resting on it. Plug the end of the pad cable into the pad jack on the bottom of the monitor.
• When the patient moves from the pad, the selected alarm tone sounds to remind the patient to sit or lay back down and alerts the caregiver that the patient is at risk of falling. The alarm signal shuts off when patient returns to the pad or the monitor is reset using the 2 button reset.
• Patient/Caregiver demonstrates each step and has a solid understanding.

Cleaning

Clean monitor and pad as necessary by wiping with clean cloth.

Safety

• Test the alarm before each use. Inspect the pads and monitor regularly to be sure they are not damaged.
• Long cords can entangle with patient and be potentially dangerous. Use care and supervision.
• Do not place magnet closer than 6 inches of an implanted device.
• Alarms should be used in conjunction with an approved fall management program. It is not intended as a substitute for appropriate patient monitoring techniques.
