Merry Walker is an enclosed, wheeled walking frame that surrounds the patient on three or four sides, supporting patients with significant balance impairment who require more comprehensive support than a standard walker or rollator provides. The patient stands inside the frame, which bears their weight if they stumble, making it a fall-prevention mobility aid for patients with dementia, neurological conditions, or advanced deconditioning.

The Merry Walker promotes upright mobility and engagement for patients who may otherwise be confined to a wheelchair. OxyCare supplies Merry Walkers and rental is available.

Please follow instructions given by the equipment technician. Please follow your doctor's orders.

Set-up

1. Technician will set-up the walking aid at your home.
2. Adjust the walking aid to the proper height, generally adjust handgrips to wrist level.
3. Adjustments are made by depressing the spring-loaded button and moving the foot piece to the desired height.
4. Walkers fold by pressing button and moving sides inward.
5. Canes are generally used on the stronger side.
6. Demonstrate how to fold walker.
7. Patient/Caregiver demonstrates each step and has a solid understanding.
8. Review how to call for service. When to order. Where to call.

Cleaning

1. Walking Aids can be wiped off with soapy water. Wipe soap off with a damp cloth.

Safety

1. Watch for trip hazards (cords, throw rugs, uneven surfaces).
2. All feet on walking aid must be the same height.
3. Be sure pathways are clear for movement within the home, check doorways.
4. Check for wear on the rubber tips after an extended period of use.
