Transfer Bench bridges the side wall of the tub or shower, allowing patients to sit on the bench outside the tub and slide laterally across into the shower/tub area without stepping over the tub wall. It is an important fall prevention device for patients who have difficulty stepping in and out of the tub but can perform a seated lateral transfer.

OxyCare technicians deliver and set up transfer benches, adjust height, and demonstrate correct transfer technique to patients and caregivers. Rental is available for patients with post-surgical or short-term bathing needs.

Set-up

1. Technician will set-up the commode at your home.
2. Adjust the commode/bath seat to the proper height, adjust to the height that allows patient to stand from device.
3. Adjustments are made by depressing the spring-loaded button and moving the foot piece to the desired height.
4. Arms are used to guide the patient on and off the seat.
5. Position commode bucket in proper place.
6. Patient/Caregiver demonstrates each step and has a solid understanding.
7. Review how to call for service. When to order. Where to call.

Cleaning

1. Commodes/Bath Seats can be wiped off with soapy water. Wipe soap off with a damp cloth.
2. Commode Buckets should be emptied after each use.
3. Commode Buckets should be sanitized each day with disinfectant.

Safety

1. Watch for trip hazards (cords, throw rugs, uneven surfaces).
2. All feet on commode/bath seat must be the same height.
3. Be sure pathways are clear for movement within the home, check doorways.
4. Check for wear on the rubber tips after an extended period of use.
